- There are a few routes to examine when considering evaluations for a child. There are private evaluations (medical and/or individualized therapeutic) and system-based evaluations (Early Intervention or through the public school system). Early Intervention is the primary evaluation source for children under the age of three. You can contact them here:
- Child Find is used for children over the age of three. To be found eligible for special education and related services, the student must have a disability according to one of the eligibility categories according to NJAC 6A:14-3.5(c). The disability must adversely affect the student’s educational performances and the student must be found in need of special education and related services. You can contact them here:

- It is helpful to consult with professionals and reference expected developmental milestones.
- The first three years of life are important, formative years in maximizing a child’s future potential. While children develop at different paces, there are developmental milestones children should reach by certain times during the first three years of their lives. When children fail to reach these milestones, parents and other caregivers (such as teachers and/or pediatricians) should consider contacting Early Intervention for an evaluation.

- Communication
- Feeding
- Social – Emotional
- Walking/movement
- Vision
- Hearing
- Cognition
